Watch out for these warning signs of a distracted driver

There are certain factors that make the roads less safe for anyone on them. Drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one such issue. Another is drivers who get behind the wheel when exhausted or fatigued. Finally, distraction plays a major part in a large number of otherwise preventable crashes.

Distractions and sensory deprivation can cause what has been labeled "Inattentional Blindness." The term "inattentional blindness", also known as "perceptual blindness" is defined as a psychological lack of attention that is not associated with any defects or deficits. It may be further defined as " the event in which an individual fails to recognize an unexpected stimulus that is in plain sight." In other words, people sometimes fail to see major things that are going on right in front of their eyes. Drivers can experience inattentional blindness especially if they are distracted by practices such as texting. Looking at tiny keyboards and punching numbers into a tiny screen can cause a driver to avert their attention from the road in front of them and the task of driving.

The Insurance Research Council (IRC) estimates that approximately one out of every four Florida drivers is uninsured. Many more Florida drivers are underinsured which means that they have minimum limits of insurance coverage and this coverage is most likely inadequate if they injure you in a Sarasota or Bradenton motor vehicle accident. This is why it is very important to purchase uninsured/underinsured (UM/UIM) motorist coverage. If you have UM/UIM insurance, your accident related expenses can be covered up to the limits of that coverage. In addition to medical bills, uninsured motorist coverage can cover lost wages and loss of earning capacity. Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage can also help cover your injuries if you were a bicyclist or pedestrian involved in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver.

Florida Traffic Fatalities Up 12% This Year

car-accident-2.jpgFlorida traffic fatalities have increased all over the state this year. In Lee County, Florida, traffic accident fatalities are up 32% compared to this time last year. So far this year, there have been 43 people fatally injured in Lee County traffic accidents. Part of the increase in traffic deaths relates to the increase in population. But there are other factors involved. Many recent Florida fatal accidents have involved the following issues:

Sarasota and Bradenton Rear-End Accident Attorneys

rear-end-accident.jpgRear-end collisions happen quite frequently in Florida. Many people assume that they can recover damages after being rear-ended in a motor vehicle accident. Often it is assumed that the rear driver was the sole cause of the accident. If the rear driver can produce evidence that shows that they are not solely responsible for the accident, the rear-end driver can rebut the presumption of fault for the accident. For instance, if the rear driver may is able to prove that the driver in front stopped suddenly or unexpectedly or had a mechanical failure, a jury can determine the degree of the rear-ending driver's negligence.
