DISTRACTED TRUCK DRIVERS CAN LEAD TO TRAGIC ACCIDENTS

We have all heard about the dangers of distracted drivers but what about distracted truck drivers? Distracted truck drivers can cause catastrophic or fatal accidents. Truckers drive for a living, so they are behind the wheel for many hours at a time. Truck drivers are often under tight pressure to drive so many miles or make so many deliveries in a fairly limited amount of time. Truck drivers often drive while fatigued and/or distracted. When a truck driver is driving while distracted, they place themselves and others at risk of a tragic preventable accident. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), external distractions cause about 8% of large truck crashes and internal distractions cause about 2% of all large truck crashes.

ELDERLY DRIVERS HAVE AN INCREASED RISK OF A SARASOTA OR BRADENTON PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT

Florida has the highest rate of pedestrian accidents in the nation. Much of this has to do with the way roads are designed. Florida also has a very large elderly population. In fact, Florida has the nation's highest number of residents over the age of 65. Due to their age and pre-existing conditions, the elderly are more likely to sustain serious injuries or fatalities when involved in a Florida pedestrian accident. Elderly Florida citizens often choose to live in areas that are conveniently located near stores and other places they can walk to. The elderly tend to have slower reaction times and their hearing may be diminished, creating dangerous situations involving motor vehicles. Due to limited mobility and certain physical impairments, elderly citizens are more likely to be involved in pedestrian accidents and they may have a difficult time getting out of the way of oncoming traffic.

CATASTROPHIC MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INJURIES

Due to the fact that motorcycles offer very little structural protection, Florida motorcyclists are highly susceptible to catastrophic injuries from motorcycle accidents including spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and amputations. The loss of an arm or leg is a life-altering injury. The road to recovery after such a catastrophic injury can be long and difficult. Usually, long term rehabilitation is necessary. There can be complications regarding the loss of a limb including heavy blood loss which can lead to shock, low blood pressure, weakness and rapid heat beat. When an injury is so severe that it leads to an amputation, the injured party should seek the advice of an experienced motorcycle accident attorney.

HIT AND RUN LAW IN FLORIDA

According to Florida law, any driver involved in an accident must stop and remain at the scene of the accident. This is known as the "duty to give information and render aid." If a driver violates these legal requirements, they could face the following penalties:
